This section covers all aspects of managing your staff during their employment. Read our guides to
ensure you keep within the law, and follow best practice. And see below for a quick summary of what's new!
With effect from 6 April 2008, the scope of the Information and Consultation
of Employees Regulations was extended to employers with 50 or more employees.
See our guide.
From the same date, the Sex Discrimination Act 1975 (Amendment)
Regulations 2008 require employers who know that a client or customer is
sexually harassing one of their female employees to take such steps as are
"reasonable practicable" to protect them. The definition of sex-related harassment is
broadened, and extends to individuals who are not subjected to the unwanted
conduct themselves, but who, for example, work in an environment where sexist
banter is commonplace and which creates an offensive environment for them.
As from October 2008, women will be entitled to all non-pay benefits
during their entire maternity leave period - including contractual holiday entitlement,
company cars, health club membership, private medical insurance etc. See
maternity.
