Working with volunteers policy

If you regularly use volunteers within your business to assist with projects, it may be worth having a policy which spells out when you would and would not use such volunteers, what your obligations are towards them, the fact that they are not employees, and your procedures for reimbursing their expenses etc.

The BusinessHR working with volunteers policy is fully customisable so can be adapted to meet your particular needs. All you need to do is:

  • consider the suggested wording on our template working with volunteers policy Paid up members, or Pay as you go.
  • customise your policy to suit your individual business environment and download it
  • consult with the appropriate employees, managers and volunteers and consider any representations or queries
  • communicate the final version to your employees, managers and volunteers
  • consider whether your managers need any training in order to implement the policy
  • review the document on a regular basis: we would recommend at least annually and also whenever there are any changes in your methods of working.

You may wish to also read our guide to working with volunteers Paid up members, or Pay as you go..
